About Us

The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn
(Ralph Waldo Emerson)

One Acorn is a community of volunteers based in Central Hampshire who work in harmony with nature to promote the benefits of social interaction, physical activity and mental well-being following three core principles: nature, community and giving back.

We give people from all walks of life opportunities to experience nature-based activities whilst simultaneously connecting with others and improving our environment.

Our Founder

Naturally enthusiastic, generous-spirited and caring, Lucy founded One Acorn while she was recovering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

As a nature-lover, she understands the true value of spending time outdoors, social interaction and physical activity as a means to promote health and wellbeing.

Lucy is getting this project off the ground thanks to the Lloyds Bank Social Entrepreneurs Programme.

Our Team

We are currently recruiting volunteers to form our core team and trustees to allow us to become a charity.

Mission statement

We promote wellbeing for all our volunteers through learning and carrying out practical tasks while working in harmony with nature and connecting with others.

Values

  • Inclusive – we run our organisation in a non-judgemental way where all are welcome, regardless of what additional needs they have
  • Value individuals – we believe that everyone has something special to offer
  • Connected with nature – we believe that we should look after the environment because it also looks after us
  • Giving back – we plough all our profit back to the organisation so that we can offer more benefit
  • Keep learning – everyone involved learns new skills whether practical or softer skills
  • Promoting independence – we offer support to increase the independence of our participants, including improving prospects for employment
  • Connections – we build connections between people to reduce social isolation and seek to connect with similar organisations to offer our services to as many people as possible
  • Democratic – we regularly review our activities and our mission statement with our participants, volunteers and trustees to allow everyone to shape our future

Vision

By 2027: We are the go to hub for anyone with mental or physical health issues who could benefit from social interaction, physical activity, spending time outdoors and socialising within a safe and non-judgemental group of like-minded others.

We will regularly review our mission statement, values and vision with our trustees, volunteers and participants.
